Isabella Oliver is my favorite maternity clothing company. Their clothes are chic, flattering and, most importantly, comfortable and functional! Every time I do a maternity clothing post, I find myself on their site, obsessing over which items to pick from the multitude of gorgeous options. So… I figured it was time for a post that featured Isabella Oliver maternity wear alone! Something I really like about this line is that many of the looks can be worn post-pregnancy! On the site, there is a lettering system to help you easily identify these items.
P- PREGNANT perfect during pregnancy
A- AFTER nursing or just after birth
F- FOREVER wear even when not pregnant

I came across this picture taken on June 14, 1913 months ago when combing the Library of Congress’ photostream on Flickr and saved it immediately. I love its feel!
Story behind the photo: Finley Johnson Shepard (1867-1942) was the Eastern representative of the Missouri Pacific Railroad and his wife, Helen Miller Gould (1868-1938) was an American philanthropist and socialite from NYC. Helen’s father was wealthy American Railroad developer, Jay Gould. Finley and Helen were married on January 22, 1913 and soon afterwards, they adopted 3 children together and had one foster son. Their first adopted son was a 3-year old found on the steps of St. Patrick’s Cathedral! This picture was taken at the Newport Cup polo match at Meadow Brook Field (now The Meadowbrook Polo Club) in Long Island. photo source
On June 13, 1927, Aviator Charles Lindbergh was honored for his solo flight across the Atlantic with a ticker tape parade down Broadway in NYC! I love this photo of the flurry of paper falling from the office buildings above- it almost looks like snow. So beautiful, although horribly wasteful!

This week in our children’s music classes at TLB, we’re playing music from Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s Cats. While preparing, I came across this video of Elaine Paige’s amazing performance of “Memory” from the 1998 film version of the Broadway musical. If you haven’t seen it, you must devote 3 minutes and 53 seconds to this powerful and unforgettable ballad sung by the character Grizabella!
I created this musical instruments coloring sheet to use in our classes at TLB Music when we’re learning about the String family! Click the link below to download and print.

Cole Porter was an American composer and songwriter born on June 9, 1891 in Peru, Indiana. By the age of ten, he was playing the violin and piano and had already written his first song! In 1905, he headed to Worcester Academy in Massachusetts, bringing along an upright piano with him. He once recounted a lesson learned while studying there that would guide his career as a composer: “Words and music must be so inseparably wedded to each other that they are like one.” Despite being described as “precocious”, Porter became the valedictorian of his class and after graduating, went on to Yale. At Yale, he left his mark as one of the original members and principal soloists of the famous a-cappella group, the Whiffenpoofs. Porter wrote over 300 songs while at Yale including many songs that are still sung there today! By his 30s, after his time spent throwing lavish parties in Paris, he became a widely-known successful Broadway composer. Some of his best-known songs: ”Anything Goes”, “Night and Day”, and “Let’s Do It, Let’s Fall in Love”.
I love this clip from “Midnight in Paris” when Owen Wilson’s character walks into a 1920s Paris party, having time-traveled from present day, stunned to find Cole Porter playing his 1928 hit “Let’s Do it, Let’s Fall in Love”!
Happy National Doughnut Day! National Doughnut Day is celebrated on the first Friday of June each year. These are my favorite mini doughnuts from Vegan Divas on the Upper East Side. They are light, moist, and unforgettable! They’re available in Cinnamon Sugar, Coconut, and Chocolate-Frosted and you can also get them in full size.
Did you know that this sweet holiday was created by The Salvation Army in 1938? Watch the short clip below and click here for more Doughnut Day history!
Katia and I recently attended The Seed 2013. It’s a 2-day event for vegans (me!), vegetarians and those who are veg-curious (like Katia!). What an amazing experience. The Soho event space was filled with tables representing cruelty-free products and services, vegan restaurants and foods, authors, athletes, and more. Also, there was a full schedule of world-renowned speakers and free exercise classes!
I’ve been vegan for almost 2 years and before that I was vegetarian for 14 years so this was heaven for me! In particular, I fell in love with 5 food products:
